Looking To God For Mercy

I lift my eyes to you,

O God, enthroned in heaven.

We keep looking to the LORD our God for his mercy,

just as servants keep their eyes on their master,

as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal.

Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy,

for we have had our fill of contempt.

Psalm 123:1-3

One of the most difficult things to do in life is wait. Our desire is to have the finished product or get to our intended goal immediately. But the psalmist in this prayer knew that waiting on the Lord was best, so he was going to wait as long as it took to see God’s mercy revealed in his life. God grants us mercy, not because we deserve it but because he loves us, and he will grant it in his own timing. Like servants who keep their eyes on their master or a slave girl who watches her mistress for the slightest signal, we should be attentive to God’s leading and patiently wait on God for his help.

Lift your eyes to God and look to him for mercy. Wait expectantly for him to help you. Then remember to thank God for his kindness and mercy toward you.
