Praying For God’s Correction

I know, LORD, that our lives are not our own.

We are not able to plan our own course.

So correct me, LORD, but please be gentle.

Do not correct me in anger, for I would die.

Jeremiah 10:23-24

When we get impatient for God to show us what he wants us to do, it’s so easy to move ahead, plotting our own course. When that happens, we lose perspective, and we need someone to correct us. We need someone to tell us that we’re off course and that we need to change directions. It’s not always easy to accept that correction, but it’s necessary. Jeremiah must have sensed that he was making his own plans and following his own way. “So correct me, LORD,” he prayed, “but please be gentle. Do not correct me in anger, for I would die.”

The Lord has a plan for us, a course he wants us to follow. When we get off course, we would do well to pray as Jeremiah did and ask the Lord to make the necessary correction in our life.
