Celebrating God’s Power

Celebrating God’s Power

The LORD is good to everyone.

He showers compassion on all his creation.

All of your works will thank you, LORD,

and your faithful followers will praise you.

They will speak of the glory of your kingdom;

they will give examples of your power.

They will tell about your mighty deeds

and about the majesty and glory of your reign.

For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.

You rule throughout all generations.

Psalm 145:9-13

David couldn’t stop praising the extraordinary reign of the Lord over all of creation. God’s power was so awesome to David that he couldn’t imagine only people praising God’s goodness. In this prayer, David described all of creation as praising the Lord: “All of your works will thank you, Lord.” He portrayed God’s people and all of God’s creation excitedly talking together about God, celebrating his powerful deeds, and telling others of the wonderful things the Lord had done.

Look around you today. Imagine all of creation—including the wildflowers of the fields—expressing in their own nonverbal ways their thanks to God. Join in that chorus with your own expression of thanks to your Creator.

  • O Lord, our Creator, I join with creation and praise you . . .
