Declaring God’s Awesome Power

Sing to the one who rides across the ancient heavens,

his mighty voice thundering from the sky.

Tell everyone about God’s power.

His majesty shines down on Israel;

his strength is mighty in the heavens.

God is awesome in his sanctuary.

The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people.

Praise be to God!

Psalm 68:33-35

In this prayer, David attempted to find images that adequately describe God’s power and might. So he used the sun and thunder as illustrations of God’s power. God holds the power that gives the sun its brilliance and the storm its terrifying thunderclaps. And remarkably, he gives power and strength to his people. Surely the Almighty is worthy of praise. David’s desire was that the whole assembly of God’s people would raise their voices as one to praise the God of Israel.

We, too, can receive God’s power and strength just as David did. Take time today to meditate on God’s power. Find an image that communicates power and strength in an awesome way to you personally. Then, praise the God who made those things.
