Placing Our Confidence In God

My heart is confident in you, O God;

my heart is confident.

No wonder I can sing your praises!

Wake up, my heart!

Wake up, O lyre and harp!

I will wake the dawn with my song.

I will thank you, Lord, among all the people.

I will sing your praises among the nations.

For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens.

Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens.

May your glory shine over all the earth.

Psalm 57:7-11

David prayed these words when he was fleeing for his life. We would expect a man running for his life to be focused on what his enemies were doing and how he could elude their traps. But David, after describing his predicament to the Lord, focused on how powerful his Helper was. His prayer for help quickly turned to loud and heartfelt praise: “I will wake the dawn with my song. I will thank you, Lord, among all the people.” Why was David moved to such gratitude when facing danger? Because he knew God’s unfailing love was greater than his difficulty. David’s prayer put his earthly trials in eternal perspective.

How could God’s eternal perspective help you face the difficulties in your life? In prayer, place your confidence in your all-powerful God.
