Observing God’s Power In Action
Observing God’s Power in Action
Some went off to sea in ships,
plying the trade routes of the world.
They, too, observed the LORD’s power in action,
his impressive works on the deepest seas.
He spoke, and the winds rose,
stirring up the waves. . . .
“LORD, help!” They cried in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
He calmed the storm to a whisper
and stilled the waves.
What a blessing was that stillness
as he brought them safely into harbor!
Psalm 107:23-25, 28-30
After coming safely through a dramatic, life-threatening experience, the whole world seems fresh and new. We have a new appreciation for the gift of health and life. This is the perspective of the psalmist in this passage. When some exiles were aboard a ship being tossed about by fierce winds and relentless waves, God calmed the wind in answer to their cries for help. We can only imagine how those windblown exiles rejoiced over that safe harbor. They praised and thanked God and would never take God’s protection for granted again.
Recount the ways God has worked powerfully in your life. Praise him for bringing you through the trials and hardships you have experienced.
- Dear Lord, I have seen your power in action, and I thank you . . .
