Rejoicing In God’s Power

This prayer was sung by the prophet Habakkuk: . . .

Habakkuk 3:1, 3-6, 19

Habakkuk had some tough questions for God, such as why he was silent when the wicked oppressed good people. God answered Habakkuk: There will be a day when he will return to establish justice. On that day, he will rescue his people and punish the wicked. Habakkuk responded with a prayer of praise and compared God’s power to a great storm that lit up the night sky with its deafening thunder—a storm so fierce that it leveled mountains and hills.

One of the reasons we pray is to understand this world from God’s perspective. We can bring our tough, honest questions to God, just as Habakkuk did. Yet as we meditate on Scripture and on God’s good plan, we should be inspired to praise the Almighty the same way Habakkuk did.
