May God’s Promise Last Forever
May God’s Promise Last Forever
Now, O LORD, I am your servant; do as you have promised concerning me and my family. May it be a promise that will last forever. And may your name be established and honored forever so that everyone will say, “The LORD of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, is Israel’s God!” And may the house of your servant David continue before you forever.
1 Chronicles 17:23-24
In a world where little can be enjoyed “forever,” David praised God for giving him an everlasting promise. His family would reign forever on Israel’s throne. One can imagine David’s delight when he realized that this promise would be fulfilled by the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Born in David’s royal line, Jesus was the King of kings, who at the end of this age will reveal his eternal reign over all of creation.
Generations later, we too are moved to prayer when we consider God’s eternal promises to us. May David’s words help us thank God for his eternal promises—our salvation and our eternal inheritance in heaven. Spend some time thanking God for his promises that will last forever.
- Dear Lord, do as you have promised to me. May your promises last forever . . .
