Jesus’ Prayer For The Church

Jesus’ Prayer for the Church

I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you, for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me.

John 17:6-8

In his last hours on earth, Jesus prayed to his Father on behalf of his disciples, asking the Father to protect them. In this portion of his prayer, Jesus explained to his Father how he had been obedient to the task given him of communicating God’s words accurately and clearly to the twelve disciples. Jesus’ job was done. Now it was the disciples’ turn to share God’s message with others. What a rich heritage we have as followers of Christ. Just think of it, the very words of God that were entrusted to the disciples have been passed on to us. What a precious treasure that is!

Are we treating God’s words as the priceless gift it is? Are we telling others about God’s message? Thank God today for his words.

  • Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to earth to communicate your word to us . . .
