A Request For God To Remember Us

There is joy for those who deal justly with others

and always do what is right.

Remember me, LORD, when you show favor to your people;

come near and rescue me.

Let me share in the prosperity of your chosen ones.

Let me rejoice in the joy of your people;

let me praise you with those who are your heritage.

Psalm 106:3-5

Feeling forgotten is one of the worst feelings—especially if the people who forgot you are your only hope. No doubt Samson felt that way when he was languishing in prison—blind and alone. In his last request, he called to the Lord, “Remember me again” (Judges 16:28). Similarly, after enduring multiple personal crises, Job pleaded with God, “Mark your calendar to think of me again!” (Job 14:13). Even the thief on the cross asked Jesus, “Remember me when you come into your Kingdom” (Luke 23:42). These people—along with the psalmist in this prayer—understood that their lives depended on God’s loving concern.

Remember that the Lord never forgets his own, though we foolishly wander away from him. When you are feeling alone and rejected, call out to God and know that he is watching over you.
