Hoping In God Alone

We put our hope in the LORD.

He is our help and our shield.

In him our hearts rejoice,

for we trust in his holy name.

Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD,

for our hope is in you alone.

Psalm 33:20-22

We all crave security. When difficult circumstances threaten to overtake us, most of us lean heavily upon our friends and family to help us persevere. But this prayer reminds us that only almighty God can ultimately help us. It is good to acknowledge our dependence on the Lord when we approach him in prayer. Remember that he is our shield. As we concentrate on this marvelous truth, our fear can turn to rejoicing.

Stop for a few moments to consider the ways you seek security—in small matters and in large matters. Then, before God, acknowledge that ultimately you put your hope in him alone.
