Asking God To Listen

I pray to you, O LORD, my rock.

Do not turn a deaf ear to me.

For if you are silent,

I might as well give up and die.

Listen to my prayer for mercy

as I cry out to you for help,

as I lift my hands toward your holy sanctuary.

Psalm 28:1-2

There are times when God seems so far away. We pray . . . and pray . . . and pray . . . and there is no answer. Where is God? Does he really hear us? In Psalm 28, David expressed this same frustration about his prayer. He had called out to God for help, yet all he heard was silence. But instead of turning away from God, David turned to God and renewed his plea for God to listen. He refused to give up on God, for he knew he could count on God alone to save him.

The good news is that David wasn’t disappointed. The second half of David’s prayer describes how God heard David and answered his prayers (Psalm 28:6). Today, rejoice with David in God’s commitment to hear and answer the prayers of his people.
