Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, Holy, Holy

Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying,

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—

the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”

Revelation 4:8

Can you hear it? Be still and listen closely. The words ring out over the horizon of time itself—holy, holy, holy. The first person to hear that heavenly refrain was the prophet Isaiah. He heard those words from the angelic beings who gathered around God’s throne. Then, hundreds of years later, John, while exiled on the island of Patmos, was allowed to hear this eternal chorus: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty.” When the minutiae of life seem to outweigh their eternal meaning, when the ebb and flow of life’s routine weighs you down, listen closely for heaven’s refrain. Holy! Holy! Holy! The prayer of praise rings on.

Today take a moment to join the heavenly chorus in praising God, for he is holy.

  • Dear Lord, you are holy. You are the Lord God Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come . . .
