Praise the Lord!

How good to sing praises to our God!

How delightful and how fitting!

The LORD is rebuilding Jerusalem

and bringing the exiles back to Israel.

He heals the brokenhearted

and bandages their wounds.

He counts the stars

and calls them all by name.

How great is our Lord! His power is absolute!

His understanding is beyond comprehension!

Psalm 147:1-5

How great is our God? How can we measure or express the extent of his majesty? His greatness is revealed through his mercy. This prayer was written right after a remnant of God’s people returned from exile in Babylon. The psalmist delighted in praising God because of the miracle that was taking place before his eyes: “The Lord is rebuilding Jerusalem and bringing the exiles back to Israel.” The God of mercy, who heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds, is the same mighty God who calls all the stars by name. God is wise and powerful. For all these reasons, the psalmist exclaimed, “How good to sing praises to our God!”

Consider how great the Lord of the universe is. Express your feelings to him in prayer.
