God’s Powerful, Unfailing Love

O God, we meditate on your unfailing love

as we worship in your Temple.

As your name deserves, O God,

you will be praised to the ends of the earth.

Your strong right hand is filled with victory.

Psalm 48:9-10

The attributes of power and love appear to be opposites. We often picture a powerful ruler as a dictator or tyrant—someone who uses his power to oppress. We often imagine a loving person as someone who is gentle and meek. But this psalm speaks of God as both powerful and loving. He uses his power in a loving way— by protecting his people, while punishing those who persist in evil ways. God will be honored and praised, for one day he will triumph over his enemies. Meanwhile, we have the privilege of joining our voices to that worship now, regardless of our circumstances.

Meditate on God’s unfailing love for you, and make a commitment this week to tell someone else what he has done for you.
