Deborah’s Praise For God’s Victory

Deborah’s Praise for God’s Victory

Listen, you kings!

Pay attention, you mighty rulers!

For I will sing to the Lord.

I will make music to the LORD, the God of Israel.

LORD, when you set out from Seir

and marched across the fields of Edom,

the earth trembled,

and the cloudy skies poured down rain.

The mountains quaked in the presence of the LORD,

the God of Mount Sinai—

in the presence of the Lord,

the God of Israel.

Judges 5:3-5

Deborah wasn’t the type of woman to sit idly by and wait for others to act. When God told her that the Israelites should attack Sisera’s army, she immediately gave Balak the news. And when Balak hesitated, she encouraged him by promising to march into battle with him. Her courage and trust in God inspired Israel to win the battle. Another woman, Jael, killed the enemy, Sisera, when she had the chance. At the victory celebration, Deborah took the lead again. She didn’t take all the glory for herself. Neither did she praise Balak or Jael for their courage. She praised the Almighty for the victory.

Where has God given you a victory in your life? Where has he shown his power? Praise the Lord for working in your life and tell others how great he is.
