Ultimate Protection
Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you.
Proverbs 4:6
CRIME DOESN’T TAKE A VACATION. During the summer, when families travel, their homes are vulnerable to break-ins. Home security expert Alan Young says some simple steps can keep your house safer. He recommends not posting photos on Facebook or Twitter while you’re still on vacation. Surprisingly, many burglaries are committed by someone you know or by someone connected to someone you know. Also, make sure a friend picks up your mail and newspaper and removes any door hangers. Those two things announce to the neighborhood, “Hey, we’re not home.”
While it’s important to take easy steps to safeguard our homes, it’s even more important for us to safeguard our lives. The Bible says one of the best ways we can protect ourselves is to pursue wisdom. “Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you.”
By making wise decisions, we guard our hearts. Maybe that means waking up early to attend a men’s Bible study. Perhaps it’s installing a Web filter on your computer to keep harmful images out of your life. Love wisdom by digging into God’s Word and asking God to give you understanding for how best to handle the challenging and confusing situations in your life. When we act wisely and pursue wisdom, we protect ourselves and our families.
BOTTOM LINE
Wisdom comes from knowing God’s Word and following Jesus. Protect yourself by being wise.
