THE BIBLE SAYS IT CLEARLY: “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.” In recent years, more and more churches are taking those words to heart and taking action. Instead of just talking about the Word of God, people are living it out by helping the needy, donating clothes, and cleaning up trash in public parks.

But according to research compiled by the Heritage Foundation, one of the ways men can best serve their communities is by serving their wives. The facts show that a healthy marriage benefits not only the individual couple but also the community as a whole. Studies prove that strong families are the most effective way to increase education levels, decrease poverty, and keep people away from violent behaviors. Communities with two-parent households also have lower crime rates and greater wealth.

Who knew that social justice hit so close to home? So close, in fact, that it might be best to call it “marriage justice.” A strong marriage takes work, but the personal and societal benefits are great. And if you have friends going through some difficulties in their marriage, show some true social justice by reaching out to them and encouraging them to get the help they need to rebuild their relationship. It’s one of the best investments you can make.

BOTTOM LINE

A happy wife doesn’t just benefit her husband—she can ultimately benefit her community, as well. Marriage is about more than just you and your spouse.
