Hidden Treasure

Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Luke 12:34

JESUS TALKED A LOT about treasure. He said if we find hidden treasure in a field—the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 13:44)—we should sell everything to buy the field. He said to store our treasure in heaven, because earthly treasure doesn’t last (Luke 12:33). Jesus knew that our hearts will follow our treasure. We pursue and are passionate about what we value. When we store up treasures in heaven, our hearts are there (Luke 12:34).

Our hearts should be focused on heaven. Our relationship with God is our first priority. But right after our relationship with God, we should treasure our wives.

By consciously storing up treasure in your wife, your heart will grow closer to hers. But “storing up” takes action. Look for the gems in your relationship. What’s most precious to you about your wife? How can you show her what she means to you? Even if you’ve known your wife for decades, there’s still plenty to explore and discover. When you find these relational gems, polish them. Make them brighter and more valuable. Tell her often what you appreciate about her. Be as specific and sincere as possible. Let her know that you treasure her and that she is valuable to you. As you seek to understand, value, and store up treasure in your wife, you’ll better appreciate the precious gem you have in her.

BOTTOM LINE

How can you treat your wife more like the treasure she is? Do it, and watch your heart grow closer to hers.
