Exhausted

Those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE never worked the overnight shift, it’s hard to comprehend the sacrifices that such a job requires. When everybody else in the world seems to be asleep, those working graveyard hours must be awake and alert. When the sun rises, just the opposite is true. Heavy drapes go over the bedroom windows as we attempt to get some rest.

It might not be an overnight job, but millions start work well before daylight. Others are on the clock for up to eighty hours a week, and they sometimes get so tired that they can barely see straight. Many of us can’t help but wonder, What’s the point? Plain and simple, some of us are exhausted.

Perhaps you’re one of the exhausted ones. Maybe you’re going through a particularly challenging time at work right now. As hard as it may be to see the light at the end of the tunnel, it’s there. Working hard to support your family is something you can be proud of. You’ve got responsibilities, and you’re doing everything you possibly can to meet them.

The Bible promises us the ultimate rest, and those who have worked hard for so long can no doubt take special comfort in that fact. Consider God’s promise in Isaiah 40:31 to renew your strength, and take heart. One day it will be renewed and never wane. In the meantime, keep plugging away, trusting the Lord to strengthen you.

BOTTOM LINE

Work is often difficult and exhausting, but God sustains His people. Trust Him to renew your strength.
