WORLD OF WARS
Read Matthew 24:4-14.
“Boy, have I got a hard assignment tonight,” Stephen announced as he and his brother and sister began to do their homework. “I have to memorize a bunch of dates about the Civil War.”
“And I’m learning about the battles of the Revolutionary War,” said John.
“All I have to do is go through the newspaper and cut out articles for our current events project,” Jolene told her brothers. “That doesn’t sound too hard compared to what you guys have to do.”
“Just make sure you don’t cut any of the comics,” said Stephen, grinning.
The three children worked quietly for a while, then Jolene sighed. “Almost all the articles in this paper are about troubles and wars in one place or another.”
“I wonder why,” said Stephen. “I thought people are supposed to be making the world a better place.”
“That’s true,” agreed Mom, who had just walked into the room, “but as Christians, we shouldn’t be surprised. The Bible says there will always be wars and rumors of war. Politicians talk about peace, but their desire for power often gets in the way. God is left out of the picture.”
“It’s scary,” Jolene said. “It makes me glad I’m a Christian.”
Mom smiled and said, “As Christians, we can have peace of mind no matter what happens.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you ever wonder why the world is not getting better? Do you wonder why there are so many wars? Because the world’s leaders are human, they have difficulty getting along with each other. They often refuse to follow God’s way. Isn’t it good to know that in spite of the chaos in the world around you, you can put your trust in God and have peace?
TO MEMORIZE:
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace.
Philippians 4:6-7
