Who’s Right?
WHO’S RIGHT?
Read John 17:20-23.
“Dad, we do things differently at our church than they do at Clint’s church,” Kenny said one day. “We had an argument about it. He said his church is right, and I said my church is right. Whose way is really right?”
Before Dad could attempt an answer, Kenny’s little sister and brother came into the kitchen, carrying a keyboard. They set it on the table. “We want to play a song Daddy taught us,” announced Cathy, and they proceeded to do so. At first, they carefully pressed the keys, and Kenny thought he recognized “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.” But then it became obvious that they were playing two different songs.
“That sounds awful,” declared Kenny. “I think you need a new teacher.”
“Wait a minute!” protested Dad. “The teacher’s not the problem. They’re not following my instructions.”
When the children were gone, Dad grinned at Kenny. “That sure wasn’t the way I intended their music to turn out,” he said. “But what just happened reminds me of what happens to Christians. Can’t you almost hear God saying, ‘That wasn’t what I intended,’ as He watches us? Jesus intended for His followers to all play the same song. He wants all Christians to work together.”
“But which song should we be playing? Whose way is right—Clint’s church or our church?” Kenny asked again.
“God’s way is right,” Dad answered. “And any church that believes and teaches the Bible as the true Word of God is a good one.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you ever argue with people from other churches? If you attend churches that agree with the Bible, then quit arguing. Jesus wants us to work together.
TO MEMORIZE:
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all.
