Above The Clouds
ABOVE THE CLOUDS
Read Psalm 46:1-5, 7-10.
Jeremy was going on his first airplane ride, but he felt as dark and gloomy as the sky above him. His parents were getting a divorce, and he was going to live with his grandparents for a while.
As they boarded the plane, Grandma asked, “Are you scared?”
Inside, he said, Yes, I’m scared! I’m scared of everything. But he didn’t say anything. As the plane sped down the runway, huge drops of rain splattered the windows. Just like tears, Jeremy thought. When the plane lifted from the earth, Jeremy felt his heart fly up into his throat.
Grandma reached for his hand. “Don’t be afraid, Jeremy. God will take care of us.” Jeremy knew Grandma was talking about more than the plane ride. He wanted to believe her, but he couldn’t. “We’ll go right through these dark clouds, Jeremy,” she explained. “For a few minutes, we’ll be in a thick fog. But just wait until we get above the clouds.”
Suddenly they were in the clouds. The interior of the plane dimmed. Then, just as suddenly, a brilliant light came streaming through the windows. Jeremy squinted as he pressed his nose to the pane. “It’s beautiful,” he gasped.
Grandma nodded. “Yes. Above the clouds, the sun is shining.” Jeremy turned and looked at his grandmother, who smiled gently. “Our family is going through a storm, Jeremy. Things look pretty dark. But God is in control. One day soon we’ll break through the clouds, and life will be filled with beauty and happiness again.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you going through a storm in your life? Are you afraid of the future? Remember, even when you can’t see the sun, it is shining. Even when you can’t feel God, He is near.
TO MEMORIZE:
See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The LORD GOD is my strength and my song; he has given me victory.
Isaiah 12:2
DON’T FEAR—TRUST GOD.
