Broken Eggs
BROKEN EGGS
Read Romans 5:6-11.
“Let’s color some Easter eggs, Grandma,” suggested Beth.
Grandma laughed. “Colored eggs don’t have a thing to do with Easter,” she said. “But if you want to color some for fun, we can do that.”
Grandma helped boil the eggs, and Beth dyed them a rainbow of colors.
Then Beth found a book to read. Smokey, Grandma’s cat, snuggled down into her lap. He purred as Beth stroked his soft fur. Suddenly a dog began barking outside the window. Smokey leaped out of Beth’s lap, ran to the kitchen, and jumped on the counter. Crash! Beth’s eggs rolled one by one off the counter and onto the floor. Cracks zigzagged across the colored shells.
“Smokey!” Beth cried. “You’ve ruined the eggs! You bad, bad cat!”
Grandma picked up the cracked eggs and asked for Beth’s colored markers. When Beth brought them, Grandma reached for a pink one. She drew some pink flowers, using the large cracks for some of the lines. Then she drew leaves with a light shade of green. She used a bright purple to make violets on another egg. On some she used the crack lines to make pretty designs. Soon Beth was doing the same thing.
“Grandma, they’re more beautiful than before,” Beth whispered.
“Beth,” Grandma said with a happy smile, “we just rescued some cracked eggs, but God rescues broken people—people ruined by sin. God sent His Son, Jesus, to die for them. Broken people need Jesus, and once they accept Him as Savior, they’re more beautiful than before.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Did you know you are a broken person—broken by sin? You don’t need to stay that way. Jesus died for you. Ask Him to be your Savior. He’ll make you a new person.
TO MEMORIZE:
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
