Strong In The Lord
STRONG IN THE LORD
Read Psalm 29:10-11.
“You missed!” Anson shouted as he dodged a handful of leaves his sister Gwen had thrown. He laughed as he tossed a bunch of leaves back at her.
“No fair—you’re stronger than me!” Gwen protested. They were having a great time at their aunt and uncle’s home for a weekend visit.
Uncle Tom came outside, and they all decided to go for a walk in the woods.
As they started down the trail, Uncle Tom suddenly stood still. “Don’t move,” he said softly. “Look over there!” They saw an eagle in a tree.
“Cool!” Gwen grinned. “We’ve seen eagles in a zoo, but never out in the open.”
Then with a powerful flap of its wings, the eagle took off over the treetops.
“Wow!” exclaimed Anson. “That’s a strong bird!”
“It certainly is,” Uncle Tom agreed. “You kids can be strong like that, too.”
Anson looked at his sister. “I don’t think Gwen could ever be that strong,” he teased.
Uncle Tom smiled. “Have you heard this verse?” he asked. “Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles.”
Gwen frowned. “I’ve heard that verse in church,” she said. “I’m not sure what it means, but I know it doesn’t mean we can fly.”
“That’s true,” Uncle Tom said, “but the verse gives a picture of the strength God offers us. When we trust the Lord, He supplies the strength we need, especially when we face difficult situations—like when your dad was in the hospital last year.”
“And girls can wait on the Lord and be strong just like boys, right?” Gwen asked, looking triumphantly at her brother.
Uncle Tom nodded and smiled. “Absolutely,” he agreed.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are there hard things you face throughout the day? Jesus will help you. Your problems won’t necessarily go away, but He will give you the strength you need to handle them. The next time you see a bird soaring through the sky, think of God’s promise.
TO MEMORIZE:
Those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles.
Isaiah 40:31
GOD MAKES US STRONG.
