Wrong Way

WRONG WAY

Read Ephesians 6:10-18.

Zachary looked up. “I told you to mow the lawn,” said Dad. “Instead, you’re playing ball. Last night when we talked about the way a Christian should live, you said obeying your parents was one of the most important things you could do.”

Zachary took off his baseball mitt. “Sorry, Dad. I’ll get the lawn mower right away.”

“It’s time to leave now,” said Dad. “But when we come home, you need to mow that lawn.”

Soon Zachary and his family were on their way to see six-year-old Sammy’s first soccer game. “Keep the ball in front of you and run fast!” advised Dad.

At the beginning of the second period the ball came to Sammy. He kept it in front of him and ran as fast as he could. “Oh no!” moaned his family. Sammy had kicked the ball through his own team’s goal!

On the way home Sammy’s family did their best to comfort him. “It’s your first game. You’ll learn,” said Dad as they drove into their yard. Dad looked at the lawn and then at Zachary. “I hope you learn which side you’re on too, Zach.”

Zachary, who knew what Dad meant, said, “A Christian is on the Lord’s side. And when he doesn’t obey his parents, he is acting as if he were on the world’s side.” Zachary jumped out of the car and hurried to get the lawn mower.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Are you living as if you’re on the world’s side or on the Lord’s side? The world teaches you to do whatever feels good to you. God says, “Be holy as I am holy.” The world teaches you to disobey and to be unkind to your parents. God says, “Honor your father and mother.” Don’t listen to the world’s view or be swayed to its side in any area of your life. Be strong in the Lord.

TO MEMORIZE:

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
