SEARCH AND DESTROY
Read Romans 8:31-39.
Michael hardly raised his eyes when Dad called. “Come on, Son. We have to clean the basement now.” A moment later Michael slowly put down the book he was reading and went to the basement. Dad handed him a broom, and Michael began dusting cobwebs out of corners while Dad cleaned a shelf. “That must be a good book,” Dad said.
“It sure is, Dad,” confirmed Michael. “It’s about some enemy spies on a search and destroy mission. They want to blow up a bridge, cutting the good guys off from escape.”
“Well, you’d better get on with your own search and destroy mission,” laughed Dad.
Michael waved the broom. “Watch out, spiders! I’m coming after you!”
Dad dumped some trash in a container. “Did you know every Christian has an enemy on a search and destroy mission against him or her?” he asked. “Satan’s goal is to steal your love for God, kill your desire to serve Him, and destroy your witness for Him. But if you stay close to Jesus, Satan can’t harm you.”
Dad gave the basement an approving glance. “Thanks for helping. Now you can go back to your book,” he added with a smile.
Michael grinned. “Okay. But I’m going to do my Sunday school lesson first. I don’t want to let Satan use that book to keep me from staying close to God!”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you aware of Satan’s secret mission against you? He knows just how to turn you away from loving God fully. But you can fight him. When you want to disobey your parents, skip church, tell a lie, or do any wrong thing, it’s Satan attacking you. Realize that, and ask Jesus to help you follow Him.
TO MEMORIZE:
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
