Listen To The Warning
LISTEN TO THE WARNING
Read Acts 1:6-11.
Dark clouds rolled overhead as the Martin family drove home from church. “Jesus is coming in the clouds,” five-year-old Mark said. “Is He coming today?”
“He could,” Mom answered.
“I think preachers just say that to scare people into living right,” fifteen-year-old Emily said.
“Emily!” Mom was shocked.
Just then came the wail of a siren. The wind began to blow fiercely.
“A tornado!” Emily cried above the noise.
“Keep calm,” Dad said.
“Maybe Jesus is coming!” Mark said.
“Don’t say that!” Emily cried. “Hurry, Dad!”
“Calm down, Emily,” Dad said as he turned the car in to the driveway. Hail began to hit the ground as the Martins ran for the storm cellar in their backyard. Next door Mr. Carson stood on his porch, watching the clouds.
“Better come to the cellar with us, Mr. Carson,” Mom called.
Mr. Carson laughed. “No thanks,” he said. “They blow that tornado siren every time a little cloud comes up.” As the cellar door closed behind the Martins, a loud roar filled the air.
Half an hour later Dad left the cellar to see what had happened. He came back looking sad. “It was a tornado. Mr. Carson’s house is gone. Mr. Carson is on his way to the hospital,” said Dad.
Emily looked scared. Mom said, “You don’t need to be foolish like Mr. Carson. Do you see now why preachers sound the warning? Jesus might not come today the way the tornado did. But He is coming, and we need to be ready.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Everywhere there are signs to warn us that Jesus is coming soon. It will be a wonderful day for those who are ready, but a day of sadness for those who are not. Don’t be foolish and ignore the warnings.
TO MEMORIZE:
A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.
