Hidden Treasure

HIDDEN TREASURE

Read Proverbs 8:5-14.

Raul laid his report card on the table and grabbed the newspaper, looking for Part 3 of “Hidden Treasures,” a five-part article about deep-sea treasures. Raul eagerly read and then cut out the article. He often daydreamed about what it would be like to find a hidden treasure and get rich!

After dinner Raul’s parents were reading the paper. “What’s going on?” Dad asked. “I see that another article has been cut out.”

Raul’s eyes got big and dreamy as he told his dad all about the treasure articles and how he hoped to become a treasure hunter someday.

Then Dad brought out Raul’s report card. “It looks to me as if you’ve been concerned with the wrong kind of treasure lately,” he observed. “Your school grades have gone down.”

Raul sighed. “Oh, well, treasure hunters don’t have to be so smart—just lucky!”

“The report card isn’t all,” said Mom. “Your Sunday school teacher says you haven’t been paying attention. You know, Proverbs says we must look for wisdom with the same persistence that a treasure hunter searches for silver. The Bible describes wisdom as being ‘more valuable than rubies.’”

“Your mom’s right,” agreed Dad. “You need to get your treasure-hunting priorities in order, Son. It’s time to put a little more effort into your work—at school and Sunday school.”

“It’s okay to dream of being a treasure hunter,” added Dad, “as long as you find the treasure of wisdom first.”

HOW ABOUT YOU?
