Heart Blindness
HEART BLINDNESS
Read Ephesians 4:17-24.
“Mommy!” sobbed Cassie as she struggled through the doorway with her backpack and lunch box.
“What’s wrong, honey?” asked Mom as she unzipped her daughter’s coat.
“The big kids on the bus called me Four-Eyes.” Cassie sniffled as she took off her glasses to wipe away her tears. “I-I don’t want to wear my glasses anymore.” Mom sighed.
“They said I’m blind, too!” Cassie exclaimed. “I’m not blind, am I?”
“No, honey,” answered Mom. “You just need a little help to see clearly. Isn’t it wonderful to be able to see better? And you look very nice in your new glasses. The kids just like to tease. Ignore them, and they’ll soon get tired of it.”
Cassie slipped her glasses back on. “Being teased isn’t as bad as not seeing,” she said.
Mom got up to answer the phone. When she returned, she sat down with a sigh. “My friend Deborah reminds me of you,” she said.
“Does she get teased about wearing glasses?” asked Cassie.
“No,” Mom shook her head, “she doesn’t wear glasses. But she worries that she’ll get teased about being a Christian. I’m so glad she has come to know the Lord. But when she’s with her old friends, she often acts and talks just the way they do. She’s afraid they’ll laugh at her if she obeys the Lord. She’s not very brave.”
Cassie smiled. “I’ll be brave tomorrow even if I get teased!” she declared.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you afraid of being teased and laughed at because you’re a Christian? Don’t be blind to what God wants you to do. The blessings He’ll give as you live for Him are worth any teasing you may be asked to endure.
TO MEMORIZE:
Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused.
