Guiding Stars
GUIDING STARS
Read Proverbs 4:14-19.
Zachary looked around at the dark shadows. He was on a campout with some boys from church and their leader, Mr. Jordan. They had gone for a walk, and it had turned quite dark. Zachary shivered and asked, “How are we going to find our camp, Mr. Jordan?”
An eerie sound made shivers run up and down the boys’ spines. They stepped closer to their leader. “Now, boys, that was just an owl,” said Mr. Jordan. “We’ll be at camp in no time.” He looked up and pointed. “Just what we need to guide us—the North Star!” He showed the boys how to find it and explained how it could help them find their way. Then they started off across a deserted field, keeping an eye on the bright star.
Soon they were back at camp, sitting around a cozy campfire. “Good thing we had that star to lead us,” said Zachary.
“That’s right,” agreed Mr. Jordan. “Years ago travelers and sailors used the stars to guide them.” Then he added, “I hope you boys will shine for God like guiding stars and lead others to Him. How do you think you might do that?”
“Ah-h,” began Zachary, thinking hard, “obeying our parents?”
“Being nice to our brothers and sisters,” one boy added.
“Playing fair,” said another boy.
“And obeying the rules at school,” offered still another.
“Those are great suggestions,” Mr. Jordan agreed. “As you live in a way that pleases God, you have a good start in guiding others to Him.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you willing to be a guiding light for God? When you do what God wants you to do, those who are watching will be pointed in the right direction. God will bless you for shining for Him.
