A Memorial Rock
A MEMORIAL ROCK
Read 1 Samuel 7:7-12.
The Johnson family stood looking at the big oak tree lying across their yard. During the night a fierce storm had blown the tree down. Mark was the first to speak. “God sure did take good care of us, didn’t He, Dad?”
Dad replied, “Yes, He did. And that makes me stop and praise Him.”
Mark looked at their house standing just a short distance from the fallen tree, yet not harmed at all. “Yeah,” he said in awe, “I hope I never forget all the things God has done for us.”
“We had a story in Bible club about Samuel setting up a stone. It was a reminder of how God had won a battle for Israel,” Samantha said. “Its name meant ‘God has helped us.’”
“You’re thinking of the name Ebenezer,” said Mom. “Do you want to set up a memorial rock of your own?”
Samantha laughed. “No, but I thought we could make a notebook of all the times God helps us. We could keep adding to it.”
“Hey, that’s a good idea,” exclaimed Mark. “We could put in a picture of all of us standing in front of this big tree. Whenever we see the picture, we’ll be reminded of God’s help.”
Mom and Dad both smiled. “We can call it our ‘Ebenezer Book,’” said Dad. “What a good way to remember all that God has done for us.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Have you received some special answers to prayer? Has God protected you in a dangerous situation? Maybe He’s helped you get through a hard class at school. Why don’t you try to keep a record of what God has done for you? Do it to be reminded of God’s great help when you’re faced with a difficult situation.
TO MEMORIZE:
But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress.
Psalm 59:16
REMEMBER GOD’S GOODNESS.
