Get Out Of The Dump
GET OUT OF THE DUMP
Read 2 Peter 3:10-14.
Steve and his family lived in an area where there was no trash pickup, so each week he and his dad put the garbage cans in their truck and took them to the county dump. One afternoon, as he and his dad were unloading the truck, Steve noticed some mice among the trash.
“I can see why a mouse would love to nest in that trash,” Dad said. “There’s always plenty of food and lots of papers for building materials. But some men are going to burn all this trash. The mice will lose their homes and everything in them.”
As Steve and his dad drove away, Steve couldn’t resist one last look at the mice, who were scampering about as though they had nothing to worry about.
When they arrived home, Steve went to his bedroom to change his clothes. As he opened the closet door, a bunch of his belongings fell out. “This place is a dump,” he muttered. As he glanced around the room, he saw his posters, video games, and comic books. He saw his baseball mitt, soccer ball, and model spaceships. He saw his books and his Boy Scout manual. Hmmm, thought Steve. I’d hate to be like those mice, spending all my life on things that won’t last. Maybe it’s time to get out of the dump and start spending more time on things that really matter! Steve took his Bible from the dresser drawer and placed it beside his bed.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you so wrapped up in your own plans, projects, and activities that you have little time for God? Now is a good time to concentrate on doing things that help you become more like Jesus. Remember, this life is only temporary. Only the things we do for Jesus will last forever.
