I Remember
I REMEMBER
Read Malachi 3:14-18.
Tony’s grandfather had just died. He felt nervous about attending the service. “Remember the wonderful things Grandpa taught you,” his mother said. “And keep in mind that it is only his body in the casket. He is with the Lord in heaven.”
Tony nodded. He knew that everyone will die someday until the time when Jesus comes back. And he knew that when Christians die, they go to be with Jesus.
“Death is not to be feared if we are part of God’s family,” his mother added. “Of course, we’ll miss Grandpa, and that makes us feel sad. But we can be happy for him. And until we join him, we can be thankful for the wonderful memories we have.”
Tony’s father asked, “Tony, what do you remember most about your grandfather?”
Tony thought for a minute. “I remember how kind he was to me, how he helped other people, and how he prayed for me.”
“Your grandfather would be pleased to know he was remembered for those things,” said Dad with a smile. “We should all live in a way that leaves good memories.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
When God calls you to heaven someday, what memories will you leave behind? More important, what will be written in God’s “scroll of remembrance”? Will it be recorded that you were honest, kind, helpful, and loving? That you prayed for others and served the Lord? Live so that you’ll be happy to have God and others remember your deeds.
TO MEMORIZE:
Then those who feared the LORD spoke with each other, and the LORD listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and always thought about the honor of his name.
Malachi 3:16
