Dark Glasses
DARK GLASSES
Read 1 Corinthians 13:9-12.
Kevin watched as his little brother, Grant, wearing dark glasses, pedaled his big wheel down the driveway. It was getting dark, but Grant always wore sunglasses, night or day.
Then it happened. Crash! Bang! Grant plowed into a skateboard. Kevin went to help. “If you’d take off those sunglasses, you could see where you’re going,” he scolded.
Grant answered, “I need ’em to be a motorcycle driver!” Kevin gave up and left for his afternoon club meeting at church.
The lesson that day was about heaven. “Can you imagine never getting sick and never feeling sad?” asked Mr. Potts. “In heaven there will be no sadness or pain. And no one will ever sin—or even want to do anything that’s wrong.
“We can’t know exactly what heaven is like,” said Mr. Potts, “although God has given some clues in the Bible. It’s as if we’re wearing dark glasses now. We can see just enough to show us how wonderful heaven will be. Some great day we’ll actually experience it.”
Kevin thought about Grant wearing dark glasses, barely able to see the driveway in the dusk. It’ll be great to see heaven without dark glasses, Kevin thought. I’m looking forward to that!
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Have you wondered what heaven will be like? There are many wrong ideas about it. One is that everyone will float on a cloud and do nothing but play a harp. The Bible doesn’t say that, but God does tell us some of the good things that are in store for those who have believed in His Son, Jesus. There will be only good—no bad. Heaven is beautiful in every way, and we’ll be happy all the time.
TO MEMORIZE:
Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.
