Be Ready

BE READY

Read Luke 12:37-43.

Kelly and Shawn were excited. Dad had promised that if they had their rooms cleaned by the time he got home, he would take them to the carnival for the rest of the day.

“We can watch cartoons before we clean our rooms,” Shawn said after Dad left. “We have plenty of time.”

After the program, Shawn’s friend Neil came over to play, and Kelly got a phone call. Before they knew it, it was lunchtime. “Let’s go to the Ice Cream Shoppe after lunch,” suggested Kelly, and Shawn quickly agreed. By the time they got home, it was almost three o’clock. “I guess we’d better get started on our rooms,” sighed Shawn.

“Yeah. Mine is really a mess,” said Kelly.

They were just about to go to their rooms when their father came home.

“Dad!” Shawn exclaimed. “You’re back early! We were just going to clean our rooms.”

“You mean you two haven’t even started on your rooms yet?” asked Dad. “I’m sorry, kids, but we’ll have to forget our trip to the carnival.”

“But, Dad,” said Kelly, “if we’d known when you were coming, we’d have been ready.”

Dad smiled but looked sad. “Jesus warned us to be ready for His return too, because we don’t know just when that will be.”

“I sure don’t want to miss Jesus’ return too,” Shawn said. “There’s a lot to do for Him first.”

Kelly agreed. “We’d better get busy.”

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Would you be ready if Jesus came back today? Do you know Him as your Savior? If so, are you busy serving Him and obeying Him? Don’t be taken by surprise. Be ready!

TO MEMORIZE:

You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.
