Bad Bananas?
BAD BANANAS?
Read Psalm 18:30-32.
“Ah-choo!” Peter sneezed as he wandered into the family room. “Mom, why do I have to have a cold? It’s Saturday, and Dad promised to take me fishing with him!”
“Your dad would have enjoyed taking you,” said his mom, “but it’s a little too chilly to go out with that cold.”
“I even prayed about it,” Peter moaned, “but it didn’t help. Now I’m stuck at home with nothing to do.” He opened the cupboard and peered inside. “Hey, Mom!” he exclaimed. “Did you notice these rotten bananas?” He pulled out some shriveled, brownish-black pieces of fruit.
“Don’t throw those away!” said Mom. “I’m saving them for banana bread.”
Peter made a face. “You mean you wanted these bananas to turn rotten?”
Mom smiled. “Maybe ripe would be a better word,” she said. “Dark, mushy bananas make the best banana bread.”
“That sounds crazy,” said Peter.
“You know,” said his mom, “your cold is like these bananas. You can’t see anything good about it, but God can still use it for His purposes.”
Peter sniffed and thought about what his mom had said. “I did get some extra homework done this morning,” he told her. “And since I had some free time, I talked to Kevin on the phone and invited him to go to church with us tomorrow!”
“I hope you’ll feel better by then,” said Mom. “But we’ll have to wait until God thinks the time is ‘ripe.’ You can trust the Lord to turn bad situations into good!”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Have you ever been in a situation that seemed to keep getting worse and worse? Perhaps you’ve even prayed about it but haven’t heard an answer. Maybe God was using that situation in a way you never realized. Keep trusting Him. Thank Him for bad bananas!
