A LOOK AT THE HEART
Read Jeremiah 17:5-10.
“Wow, Mom! I never knew all this stuff before.” Blake was doing a report on the heart for school. As he read the encyclopedia entry about the heart, he said, “It’s amazing how God has made us!”
“What did you learn?” asked Mom.
“Well, it says here that the heart circulates our blood over 1,000 times in 24 hours. During that time it pumps over 5,000 quarts of blood. And listen to this! If all our blood vessels were laid end to end, they would stretch almost 100,000 miles! The heart is only as big as a fist, yet it can do all that stuff.”
Mom said, “In the Bible the word heart represents our thoughts, attitudes, values, and emotions. In Jeremiah we read that the heart is deceitful and wicked.”
“That bad?” Blake asked.
“Right. We’re all born with a sinful nature,” replied Mom. “God loves us so much, however, that He gave His Son to take the punishment for our sins. When we believe in Christ as Savior, God gives us a new, clean heart—new thoughts, attitudes, and values.”
Blake had accepted Jesus as his Savior a few years ago. “Mom,” he said, “I’m going to write about the Bible in my report. Our teacher says we’re supposed to put down everything we can find about our subject. What a great chance to share about the Lord!”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you have a new heart? In Jeremiah we read about the sinfulness of the heart. That sinfulness can only be taken care of by believing in Christ as our Savior. If you have never taken care of your sinful heart, why not do so today?

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.
