A Higher View

A HIGHER VIEW

Read Romans 8:28-32.

Kayla and Derrick grinned at each other as they rode the elevator with their family to the observation deck of the skyscraper in Chicago. Their ears popped as they whizzed by floor after floor, going higher and higher. Getting off the elevator, the children ran to a window to look out at the view below.

“Everything looks so tiny!” Kayla exclaimed. “The cars look like toys.”

Mom nodded. “You can see a long way from here. See the boats on the lake?”

“Look way ahead, over to your right,” Dad instructed. “Traffic’s stopped there.”

“Yes, but look right below us,” Derrick said. “See that red car? It keeps changing lanes, trying to get ahead of everyone else.”

“Probably in a hurry,” Kayla suggested.

“Probably,” agreed Dad. “That guy is in such a hurry he’s foolishly and dangerously passing everyone. But he’s going to be slowed down because it looks like there’s a roadblock up ahead. That will stop him.”

“Too bad he can’t see the roadblock like we can,” Kayla said. “Then he’d know there’s no point to be in such a hurry.”

“You know,” said Dad, “as Christians, we sometimes act a lot like that fellow. God has a plan mapped out for each of us, but we often try to hurry ahead of His ways. We complain when we have to wait, but we don’t stop to think that there is a purpose for the delay.”

Mom nodded. “The higher view—God’s view—is better, isn’t it?”

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Do you fret when your plans are changed? Do you grumble when someone gets sick or hurt, making it necessary to cancel an activity? Changes aren’t always pleasant, but they can be good for you. Trust God to work through your interrupted plans.

TO MEMORIZE:

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
