Our Secret Sauce, His Recipe - My Success Is His Success
Our Secret Sauce, His Recipe - My Success Is His Success
WHEN I WAS YOUNG I was taught that it was my duty to support my husband’s career and his success. I accepted that his success would be my success and thus our success. Well, that was then, and this is now. Our relationship is so unique because Steve also believes in my success. My success is his success; thus it is our success. Wow. A real partnership. Who would of thunk?
At every turn in my career, Steve has made sacrifices. One sacrifice was absolutely huge. Due to my promotion as a corporate officer of a company to which he sold technology products, he gave up his largest customer—all to ensure there would be no appearance of conflict of interest, which might have blemished my professional reputation. Even though he was making more money than I was, he sacrificed, recognizing the role my professional development played in my overall state of contentment, maturation, and self-worth.
Today, he helps me run my marketing firm—I couldn’t possibly lead the company without him—and he has encouraged, yes, cheered me on to write this book. He is not a passive spectator. Steve is an active participant in every part of my professional life. He supports me by encouraging me, researching opportunities and technology solutions, managing the finances, and praying. Before every presentation, as I travel to and fro, as I prepare for every meeting, my husband is standing in my corner, lifting me in prayer. How cool is that?
In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. (Ephesians 5:28)
Gentlemen, if you’re bold enough to be reading this, there is no better way to honor your mate than to support her in endeavors that are important to her personal and professional development. Her success is your success, too, so get out your pom-poms!
