I’VE GOT YOUR attention now, don’t I?

Husbands, do you serve your wife? I’ll bet a dollar to a doughnut that you haven’t provided an act of service to her this month. Shoot! Some of you boys haven’t even considered the concept of proactively tending to her needs. Steve is a man of service. My girlfriends know that he brings me coffee each morning—that’s pretty amazing, isn’t it? But that’s only the beginning.

Steve recognizes that managing our home is an equal opportunity proposition. As an example, in our nearly twenty years of marriage, he’s not once left me alone to do the dishes and clean the kitchen. And how about this? I can’t remember ever having to ask him to take out the trash.

So, you ask, What’s in it for me? Guys, I have never once (well, maybe once) nagged my husband. Why would I? What is there to nag him about? But actually, there’s something even better in this arrangement than a less-fussy wife: sex. Yes, believe it or not, great sex starts in other rooms of the house—not in the bedroom.

Women, especially those who are maxed out with kids and/or a demanding career, get the most “turned on” when their husbands are engaged at the kitchen table helping with homework, on the phone ordering Chinese for dinner, or waiting for them in the living room. There’s nothing, I mean nothing, like arriving home from a stressful week to find the fireplace lit, my favorite CD playing, and my husband waiting there, looking forward to talking with me, not at me. Replacing our quick flurry of exchanges on schedules, honey-do’s, and family updates, we slow down to share the important events of the day and our dreams for tomorrow. Gentlemen, I promise you if you try this you’ll have a much better chance of getting lucky tonight than you did last night when you arrived home from work at 9 p.m. after your wife had helped with the Algebra II homework, cooked dinner, rocked a crying baby, and planned the holiday menu for your family.

Want your wife to be pleasant and cheerful? Get your rear end in the kitchen.

Want her to be “into” you? Get into her and pick up that toilet brush.
