A Message From A Dead Woman
A Message From A Dead Woman
The promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it . . . if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe . . . because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing. Romans 4:16-17
“Eunice, it appears you’re having a heart attack,” I said to my patient, a woman in her late sixties. “We need to send you to the hospital in Nashville so we can get a cardiologist to look at you.”
Later that day, I received a call from the cardiologist, Dr. Wong, telling me that Eunice had died in the operating room.
“I had a resident with me,” he said, “and we worked on her for at least an hour. I was about to let her go, but my resident wanted to practice running a code, so I let him while I supervised.”
It was hard to hear the details of Eunice’s death, and I started to think about what I needed to tell her family.
“But an hour into running the code,” Dr. Wong continued, “and two hours from the time she flatlined, her heart kicked in and started beating by itself.”
“Are you saying she’s alive?”
“I’m saying she was dead for two hours, and now she’s alive. I have her on a vent in the ICU, and she’s in a coma. I’m not sure how much functioning will come back.”
Three days later, Eunice woke up, and they took her off life support. Then she asked to see me.
When I walked into her room, I was surprised at how good she looked.
“Dr. Anderson!” she said, “I have a story to tell you.” She told me about seeing Jesus and her family in the most beautiful place one could imagine.
“Jesus said he wanted me to come back here for two reasons. The first was to encourage you and to tell you to stay the course. I don’t know what that means, but that’s what he told me to tell you.”
I teared up because I knew what it meant. My family had been thinking about moving, but God wanted us to stay right where we were.a
