He Healed Every One
He Healed Every One
After leaving the synagogue that day, Jesus went to Simon’s home, where he found Simon’s mother-in-law very sick with a high fever. “Please heal her,” everyone begged. Standing at her bedside, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and prepared a meal for them. As the sun went down that evening, people throughout the village brought sick family members to Jesus. No matter what their diseases were, the touch of his hand healed every one. Luke 4:38-40
No matter what disease a person had, Jesus healed everyone! Even today, with our modern medical system, designer drugs, and technological tools, we cannot boast this kind of cure rate.
Many diseases still are considered incurable, and others have only a fifty-fifty chance of being cured. Even with the most established treatments, we don’t always know who will respond and who won’t. Sometimes, we have to try a second treatment option, or a third, because the first one failed to work.
For example, most infections are treated successfully today. But in Bible times, the simplest of infections could have had life-threatening consequences because antibiotics weren’t yet available. While not always the case, some infections that cause a fever can resolve when the body’s immune system kicks in. However, serious systemic infections can overcome the immune system, causing a toxic condition called sepsis and possibly resulting in death. But under the healing hands of Jesus, the viruses or bacteria were rebuked and ran for the hills, just like the demons did when Jesus commanded them to leave.
Today, we are learning that many of our “gold standard” treatments are failing because the disease microbes are developing a resistance to many antibiotics. With Jesus, there was no resistance, only complete healing of every disease he encountered.
As a physician, I am increasingly in awe of our Lord’s power, not only over the spiritual world but also over our physical world. I pray that his healing hands will touch you today and give you the strength and courage for your own healing journey.
