Your Work

Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free.

Ephesians 6:7-8

MANY CHRISTIANS TODAY must work, keep jobs, and obey bosses they neither like nor respect. Although in the United States many of us really do have the opportunity to live out our dreams, much of the rest of the world has no such right or chance. What does God say to all of us who must work for a living, whether we enjoy our jobs or not?

Do your work with enthusiasm. How can you do this? Remember, you’re not working for a “big boss” here in this world; you’re working for Jesus, even if it doesn’t always seem like it. Be honest. Do what’s right, even when it hurts. Keep performing, even if you’re not reaping the benefits. Why? Because your paycheck in this world is small, but the one you get for faithfully serving Jesus is huge—beyond anything you could earn in this world.

The Bible says much about work. You may have the most fulfilling job possible. But ultimately, you serve the Lord first. Remember his promise: your reward for doing well is still coming!
