The Power Of Forever
The Power of Forever
You have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.
1 Peter 1:23
THERE ARE LOTS of frightening things in the world today. War is frightening, for example. So are the many types of unknown and uncurable diseases that seem to spring up every year. Whether we admit it or not, monsters (both real and imaginary) can alarm children and adults alike.
But when you think about fears, is there anything more frightening than death? Is there anything else that sets your pulse beating faster than the inevitable truth that someday you will die—that your heart will stop and your breath will cease and your muscles will stiffen? In truth, death is the veiled threat that serves as the foundation for almost all other fears.
That doesn’t have to be true in your life, however. As a follower of Jesus, you can stand against the fear of death by holding on to something even more awesome and even more unfathomable: the power of forever.
The word forever is common, but it carries tremendous weight. God has promised that if you are a Christian, you will live forever. You will not end. Long after the stars have all burned out and the universe has come apart at the seams, you will still be going strong. You won’t even be halfway toward the end of your existence at that point because there will be no end!
You will exist for eternity, which is an amazing gift, because you will spend that eternity basking in the presence of the living God, your heavenly Father.
