Wipe Away Your Tears

He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.

Revelation 21:4

IT’S HARD TO imagine a world without tears, death, sorrow, and pain, but that is what God promises in this passage. At times, it seems almost too good to be true. How can being in heaven possibly take away the pain of loss, the horrors of persecution and torture that some Christians face, and just the plain grief that comes to all of us?

God has revealed several ways heaven will be wonderful: first, heaven will be so incredible that we can’t even imagine it now, and when we get there, everything we went through on earth will pale in comparison. The pain will be forgotten. Have you ever experienced the birth of a child? The pain is tremendous. But how quickly it is forgotten when that tiny, lovely child is placed in your arms!

A second aspect of heaven is that God’s comfort will be supernaturally powerful, greater even than the comforts he showed us on earth. Some have written of how God came to them in a time of pain and suffering. Even a moment of his amazing love can help so much.

No matter how bad it has been for you here on earth, God’s promise is that one day, all sorrow will be a thing of the past—forgotten, healed, left behind.
