God Gives Justice

God Gives Justice

Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or raise his voice in public. He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. He will bring justice to all who have been wronged. He will not falter or lose heart until justice prevails throughout the earth. Even distant lands beyond the sea will wait for his instruction.

Isaiah 42:1-4

YEARS AGO, A popular Christian song told us that “Jesus is the answer” to all the problems of the world. It’s still true. Who is the answer to the lack of justice in our world? To its cruelty? To how so many people are oppressed, hated, tortured? To the way some nations carelessly oppress or destroy their own people?

For those who seek justice in our world, Jesus remains the only viable answer. No other person or god promises real hope to those who live under tyranny or who have been hurt, wounded, or put down by their culture.

But Jesus isn’t only a dispenser of justice. From the Scripture above, we learn of his compassion, his gentleness, his care for people. He would never inflict pain or destroy someone emotionally for no apparent reason. He looks over the world for people who believe in him and are oppressed to give them help and comfort. The truth is that no injustice in this world will be overlooked or forgotten. Every child of God will see justice done. That’s God’s solemn promise.
