Sharing His Glory

Since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory.

Romans 8:17

DAN SAT NERVOUSLY with several others as he listened to the lawyer for his deceased friend’s estate read the will. Since Bruce had died without a family, none of his friends or neighbors knew what he might have willed to any of them.

In time, the will mentioned Dan and advised that he’d be receiving a substantial bequest from Bruce’s estate. Dan was overjoyed, and he promptly went out and partied.

Finding yourself an heir to someone’s fortune can be a big moment for anyone. But what if you discovered that one day you would inherit God’s fortune? Since he owns the whole universe, that could be a tidy sum indeed.

What might God give us? The Bible speaks of such things as vast wealth, mansions, positions of honor and authority, the right to eat from certain food-producing trees, and so on. But what about talents, gifts of character, or the opportunity to sit with Jesus on his throne?

Do any of those things sound awesome to you? There’s one more we’ve forgotten: the promise that God will also let us share his glory. What does that mean? No one can be completely sure, but God’s glory is the respect, honor, reverence, and love due him because he’s the greatest being in existence.
