What Have I Done?
What Have I Done?
Has not the LORD of Heaven’s Armies promised that the wealth of nations will turn to ashes? They work so hard, but all in vain! For as the waters fill the sea, the earth will be filled with an awareness of the glory of the LORD.
Habakkuk 2:13-14
LOOK AROUND AT our world, and it’s easy to think it’s all about money, material possessions, love affairs, exotic adventures, and fame. Every day, Hollywood stars try to win notice in the press by doing something new and outrageous. Stockbrokers seek to manipulate numbers so they might gain another million for their millionaire clients. Nations build arsenals, great skyscrapers, and all manner of other physical structures to make themselves stand out and appear to be the “best and the brightest” in our world.
We might feel insignificant and wonder, Who am I? What have I ever done worthy of notice? One woman determined after her marriage to collect in a scrapbook every newsworthy thing that happened to her family. Fifty years later, she had only five pages of news clippings about their achievements.
It’s Satan’s lie, though, to make us think that what we do doesn’t count compared to the grand things of presidents, nations, and the strong and powerful. But even for those people, it’ll all disappear. It won’t last. What you do for God and his people will.
