Rescue

The Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment.

2 Peter 2:9

CHERYL GLANCED UP and down the aisle. The old temptation had returned. The urge to shoplift something rose in her and was about to overpower her.

But something had changed a couple of months before: Cheryl had accepted Christ. For the first time, she had someone on her side, inside her, who could help. As the “push” to sneak a small item into her pocket grew, Cheryl stopped, closed her eyes, and prayed, “Lord, please help me.”

A moment later she looked up and there was an attendant beside her. “Do you need some help, ma’am?”

Cheryl smiled. “You just gave it to me.” Then she hurried up the aisle, paid for her items, and sped out of the store. Outside, she prayed, “Thank you, Jesus. Thank you. I couldn’t have done it without her. Without you.”

Are you struggling with some sin pattern in your life? God will help you escape the temptation each time it rises if you ask him. His promise is to rescue you, sometimes in rather colorful ways, from doing what you know you shouldn’t. He cares about everything in your life, and he will always rise to the occasion.
